School Year Prayers from a Mama’s Heart: August – A TEACHABLE HEART

There are so many thoughts that flood my mind as we embark on another school year. The excitement of a new beginning is always something to look forward to, however, there are things that weigh heavy on a mama’s heart as she packs up the new back pack, lunch box and prepares the clean undies and school clothes the night before the first day. It’s exciting, but overwhelming all in the same moment.

Maybe you have grown used to the routine, but for me it is still fresh each year as we begin again. Whether you will send your little one or big one off to school with a loving teacher or keep them under your own roof for home instruction, we all have the same desires. We want our children to grow up and be a success. We want them to love others and be loved back. We want them to be light in a dark world that seems to be getting darker everyday. We want them to learn responsibility and a good work ethic. We have big dreams for our children.

You can see their strengths like no one else. You evaluate their weaknesses and work with them to become a better person. You talk with them and train them every chance you get and yet somehow there are moments when you feel completely helpless. You want what’s best for them even when it’s uncomfortable and you try your best to give them a wonderful life.

There’s lots of things you could do to prepare them for a successful school year, but there’s one thing that my heart is so burdened with this year – PRAYER.

We need to pray!

We need to intercede everyday on behalf of the children in our care.

You can teach them arithmetic and reading and writing and history and the arts, but prayer can change them. God holds the power to form them and make them someone we cannot. While we may try to mold and manipulate, nothing can convict, love and transform like prayer.

I hope you will join me this school year in prayer for the children in your life. At the bottom of this post you will find a Prayer Guide with one trait to pray over your children each month. There is a free printable memory verse included to frame or put in a visible place. I will post a new one each month.

Print out the verse and hang it on the fridge or somewhere for the family to see. Remind them everyday that they are prayed for, loved and precious in your eyes and in God’s.

This month we are praying for a TEACHABLE HEART for our children. Get your free printables below!

  4. Great word, Micah!

And, we do need to pray for those kids–no matter what their ages.

Mine are both in college, and I find myself praying more often for them than ever. I can’t think of anything better we can do for our children!

I came over on Women Helping Women today. I pinned a couple of your pins here: https://www.pinterest.com/melredd/blog-link-parties-and-blog-link-ups/

Hope you have a blessed day,
    Melanie

    1. Thanks, Melanie! Yes, never stop praying! I’m so thankful for a praying mama!

  5. I love the blessing of starting over, and these prayers will be an important part of our new year. Thank you for taking the time to share them!

    1. Steph, I do too! Thanks so much!

  6. Thanks for this post. I am a mom with two littles not yet in school, but my anxious heart grows burdened more and more each day as we see so much darkness around us. I appreciate your reminder to pray. Often I start thinking too much when I just need so be still and pray. I always enjoy reading a post when I feel I can completely relate.

    1. I get anxious too, but I’m learning more and more that prayer is the key. Oh how I think too much….I’m so thankful God knows about tomorrow already!

  7. Love this, Micah. I was just talking with some moms about getting together to pray for our kids as they enter middle school this year. Your printable is a perfect place to start. Thank you for sharing. #raralinkup

  8. Great reminder even for those of us who homeschool — maybe ESPECIALLY for us!

    1. Yes, I know I need prayer! Not just for my kiddos, but for me too!!!

  9. Yes to prayer at all times but I feel exactly like you at the beginning of every school year. As a mom and a newly retired teacher, every year felt new and prayer was the way to focus on what was important for the year. I also prayed for my students every morning right before they entered the classroom. Praying with you and glad to be your neighbor at Messy Marriage!

    1. I love that, Mray! So thankful for praying teachers!!

  10. God has been so faithful to show me how much prayer impacts my children, how I can fight so many battles for them and with them, just in my own relationship and talking with Jesus. These resources are such a blessing.

    1. Love that! Thanks so much, Jennifer!

  11. Susan B Mead says:

Beautiful Micah! Great reminder for our daily walk too.

    1. Yes, Susan! It’s interesting as I pray more specifically for my children I’m convicted to pray more specifically for my own heart.

  12. A friend gave me a card once, I keep it above my desk in my office. It says “Prayer changes things.” I agree with you, that prayer is paramount, for our lives and the lives of our children. Thank you for the reminder as we begin another school year – my twin boys are off to college.

    1. Rachel, I love that! Prayer absolutely changes things! I know your prayers are fervent for your grown up boys. I hope it’s a great year for them!
