School Year Prayers From A Mama’s Heart – October

Moms are famous for being multitasking masters. I mean who else can cook a hot meal, feed a baby, help with homework, talk to a friend on the phone, wipe a bottom, write a blog and mop the floor all at the same time. Moms just have a special knack for getting things done.
I used to feel a sense of pride when I did a hundred things at once. It made me feel like the super woman I wanted to be, but the more I learn, the more I realize I really don’t want to be a multitasker. What I really want is to be a focused mom. A mom who can help with homework without answering a text. A mom who can make dinner and teach her daughters how it’s done. A mom who can stop what she is doing to watch her kids do their latest tricks and gymnastic routines. I want to be a mom who does not multitask. I want to be focused.

As we pray for our children to focus this month, let’s add ourselves to the prayer. Let’s put away our phones, log out of social media and focus. I know it’s a daily challenge and I hope you will join me.

A focused mom, I love that! I’m actually horrible at multi-tasking. Whenever I try to do more than one thing at a time, one of those things always fails.
Yes! I think sometimes we convince ourselves we are doing better than we are really doing and other times we are our worst critic. Learning balance day by day.
Getting rid of busyness can absolutely be a way to clear clutter and focus in on what really matters to you and your family, and to God. I love this, Micah!
Thanks, Suzie!
I wholeheartedly agree. Quite frankly, I find I’m more irritable when I’m multi-tasking but I’m most content when I’m focused.
Thanks so much for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo
Thanks, Jennifer! Me too!
Yes! Hard to do when so much pulls at us . . . but focusing on what truly matters at the moment is a fantastic skill to develop.
Distractions are constant aren’t they. Learning to evaluate what is truly important. Thanks for stopping by!
Yes. I need to be more focused as well, and this week I read a term I had never heard before: “mono-tasking!” Hallelujah! Let’s shine the spot light on doing one thing at a time and doing it for God’s glory. (I read the word in Glynnis Whitwer’s book Taming the To-Do List.)
Yes!!! Love that! I’m reading the same book! Haven’t seen that word yet, but I will be highlighting it for sure!
Great point Micah! Being focused is much better! Thank you for sharing this encouragement on the Art of Home-Making Mondays! :)
You are so welcome! Thank you for reading today!
I’m a horrible ‘multitasker’, so I gave up trying years ago. Of course, sometimes I make the mistake of not stopping one task to attend to a person–and that’s a problem. I need to remember that my ATTENTION is what people want, not my response ;).
Love that, Anita. So true!
This is exactly what the Lord has been encouraging me to do as I feel the burden of parenting–pray more, think, dwell, worry less! Visiting from #RaRaLinkup
Yes! Wonderful. Worry less! Oh, how I need to apply that!
I was just thinking this today – too much time on my phone! Thanks for linking with #SmallWonder.
It’s a daily struggle.
Love this reminder for multi-tasking moms to stop and focus on their kids! I know now that my son is 18 that all the years of focusing on moments with my son, has been the greatest blessing of my life!! Wonderful! Visiting next door at #smallwonder
It’s so good to hear from those who have been there and done that! Thanks so much for joining the conversation!
I’m trying with this! It isn’t easy… which of course means it’s worth doing. Day by day…
Keep on keeping on, Sarah. One day at a time and one prayer at a time. I’m so glad you stopped by!
