When It Still Hurts

I pull the covers up over my head and close my eyes tightly. My mind embraces a new day, but my heart rejects the new tomorrow because I know the things that made my heart feel heavy yesterday are still there.

I can still feel the heaviness, the worry, the waiting for things to work out. The things unknown cause anxiety. Questions and heartaches from a fresh new wave of trials make us want to go to sleep and dream again of a better tomorrow. A day when life is good again and our hearts don’t hurt so much. But when tomorrow comes and the heartache stays, how do we move through each day and live a life of power and peace with an unworried perspective?

It’s simple really.

Trust Him.

But it’s complicated.

These things in life that make us question, worry, and wait – they cause a heart to need something more. Oh we believe Jesus is able to deliver, and we know God is always with us, but in this trial, we struggle again to see Him.

So we look for Him through tear filled eyes and we desire the peace we’ve known before. We long for Him with hearts full of care and we desperately need His comfort.

We search for Him in His Word – the only tangible thing we have from Him – and there we find an abundance of treasure that provides for every longing we possess.

No matter what your life holds, and how hard it might seem, God’s word is the healing balm that our souls need.

It doesn’t mean we won’t hurt again, or that life will change and get better. It doesn’t mean every disease will be healed in this life or that justice will be seen in our generation.

It means we live empowered to press on with a strength only known by those who believe. It means we lift our quivering chin and trust that God will provide the peace again. It’s not something we might achieve one day – it’s who He is – Peace.

So when you’re in need, like we are, I can tell you what to do – Go to Jesus. Seek His face. Search for Him like a hidden treasure. I have the secret code, the hiding place of His love, and I know His power is divinely present and voice-activated by His children.

When you feel like pulling the covers up over your head another day, here are a few treasures to help you face the new tomorrow:

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Psalm 37:2

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. Psalm 119:114

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Psalm 121
KJV

Whatever your situation, whatever your care, God’s power is strong enough to carry you through. I pray you feel Him so very near today.

If this has encouraged your heart, pass it on to a friend so they can be encouraged too!

Love & Blessings,

Micah

    1. Thank you, Liz! It’s so interesting how life happens sometimes. It’s always through the hardest things that I feel God’s presence the most. If only I would seek Him so fervently on the average days. Blessings on your week, Liz!

    1. He already has, Julie. Isn’t it amazing how God allows us to experience things in order to relate to others. He is so good. Truly, I see His hand. It’s hard and it hurts, but God is so faithful. Thank you for your encouragement, Julie!

  8. welcomeheart says:

Simple, but rarely easy. Maybe that’s why we’re better for it and stronger in the end. Blessings on you and your heart and your covers, my friend. sue

  9. Trusting God is well worth the choice. Visiting from #mommymoments :)

  10. We had a sermon on Sunday based on Psalm 119: 147-160. The pastor quoted Paul Tripp. “I’m always in a situation where there are moments that are bigger than me – bigger than my wisdom, bigger than my strength. I am always being confronted with how little I control and how little I understand.” God is big – Hallelujah! Found you from Proverbs 31 wife.
    Blessings,
    Janis

I loved how you shared the word “empowered” because that’s exactly what the Bible gives us but I had not thought of it in that way. Lifting you in prayer this morning as soon as I hit post comment. This too shall pass.

    1. Thank you so very much for your prayers! Isn’t it amazing how God’s Word “empowers” us. God’s presence is enough for each of us. So amazing!

  14. You speak beautiful words of hope, Micah, in the midst of your heartache. May you know God’s presence right beside you and His richest blessings. Hang in there.

    1. Thank you so much! Your comments make me think of the old hymn, “And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” I’m so thankful for His presence!

  15. Heartfelt and needed by so many, Micah. Praying for peace for you and your family. May God hold you all in the palm of His hand and ease the jagged edges you are feeling. Privileged to share…

  18. Your post reminds me of Job 23:8-10, where we are reminded that sometimes it seems like we can search to the right or the left or search all over for God to see if He is working and sometimes we can feel like we just don’t see Him at work anywhere And we are given the promise that even though we can’t always see Him at work, we know that He is faithful and He knows what is going on with us, and is purifying us and bringing us through the hard time like gold.

Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!

    1. Such truth in those verses in Job. I’m so thankful for the promise of His power, presence, and peace. Takes me back to Psalm 23. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me.”
