When You Are Afraid to Take the Next Step

When You Are Afraid to Take the Next Step

You heard God tell you what to do. You even almost started the assignment. You sort of planned and you are just waiting for a little more confirmation, maybe a little more time to be prepared.

The problem we all face when we wait to take the next step is that we often get distracted in the waiting. I’m learning when God says GO! that I need to step right away. Too often I hesitate in my own self-doubt thinking the results are up to me.

And then I wrestle with myself, my weaknesses, and my fear of failure.

Fear is gripping. Being afraid keeps me from doing things I know I should or makes me do things I know I shouldn’t. So here we are knowing God has placed a desire, an assignment, a step to take on our hearts. But maybe you, like me, feel like you’ve missed your window: your moment to say YES!

But I am hear reminding myself and reminding you that God isn’t waiting to smash your hands in the window just as you try to reach through. He is NOT waiting for you to fail or fumble your way through the next season.

He is with you in this!

Whatever it is that He has called you to do, He will equip and enable you to do it.

When You Are Afraid to Take the Next Step

You might get your fingers smashed in the process, and there might even be struggles along the way, but that doesn’t mean it was God punishing you. It could be that the enemy is pulling out all the stops. He doesn’t like obedience.

It is time to obey.

Take the next step even if it means climbing through a tiny window. Go! Say yes! Don’t be afraid!

I know you cannot do it alone. But if you are following God’s instructions, you are not alone. You are more ready than you’ve ever been.

Don’t mind me. I’m over here lifting my leg over the ledge of the window, peeking down to make sure I don’t fall. Let’s take the next step together.

And yes, the enemy is on your tail. Don’t look back now. You’ve got the lead. Keep going!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)

Good word and good timing. Just said yes to doing something I have never done before. Pray for me, I’m excited and terrified at the same time.
