Your Purpose Today
Last month everyone was talking about new goals and ideas to live a better life in 2019. New ways of eating, more water drinking, less clutter, and more focus.
There’s something in us that longs for more of this and less of that. We want to know that what we do matters and makes a difference. So we embrace change and try really hard to do things differently. Better.
We look for a bigger purpose, a clearer view of the future, and a redefined idea of what life should look like.
My hand is raised and I consistently evaluate how I can do things more efficiently and differently.
But with all my goal setting and life changes in mind, I’m challenged by a thought that gripped me last year. It was a hard year. I faced deep loss, health crisis with my children, and an unknown future with our foster son.
But in the midst of the unknowns and disappointments, God gave me a new appreciation for my purpose. It’s not something that I might achieve someday or possibly accomplish if I try really hard.
My purpose is today and yours is too!
Right now. In the midst of all this life we are living – our purpose resides with our daily lives. It’s not a future appointment or a task to be completed.
It’s a daily living and learning right now. It’s taking all that we know and putting it to work. It’s loving our neighbor and being kind to the people we see each day.
For me, it’s serving my husband and being available to my children. It’s sharing Jesus in the way I talk and live. It’s writing when God gives me words and hugging my people.
Purpose is not tomorrow or next year.
It’s not an agenda or a completed project. Purpose is bigger than that. It’s a life long journey of living one day at a time with life focused on Jesus.
Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight,
O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
We like to think of purpose in titles and accomplishments. It’s easy to see purpose in charities, causes, and a call to help in crisis. Purpose can easily be defined and seen in work or words. But what about the silence of a hug or a smile? Perhaps it’s just being there for a friend in need, or putting down your phone and looking into the eyes of the person across the table. That’s a big deal.
It means so much.
I’m writing this for me and all of us who get sidetracked looking for something bigger, something more.
Sometimes we get distracted by something that might not ever be. So instead of focussing on tomorrow, let’s focus on today. As we do, it’s time we take a long hard look at what really matters, what really lasts. I’m learning that my purpose has little to do with tomorrow and everything to do with eternity. When I live with eternity in mind, I live more fully in my purpose for today.
Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
and He will do it.
Psalm 37:5
What is God putting on your heart to do? Don’t waste the day! God has a purpose for you right now! Let’s not let the days slip away. I would love to hear what God is putting on your heart to step forward in this year!
Love & Blessings,
Micah

Love this, Micah! We mustn’t dismiss the miracle in the mundane!
God wants me to honor my mother’s request to no longer live in Assisted Living, so that she can stay with my husband and I. I know this is His will for me to honor my parents.
